Swash variants are common in Script and italic Serif Typeface, where they add visual drama to initial letters, drop caps, or display headlines. In OpenType, swash alternates are accessed via the swsh feature and are discretionary: they should be used sparingly, as overuse can reduce Legibility and overwhelm the text.
